After fielding complaints about speeding and loud vehicles, the Asheville Police Department issued nine citations on April 4, 2026, during a crackdown in downtown Asheville.
Interim Chief Jackie Stepp, according to WLOS, emphasized the importance of a safe and welcoming downtown. The initiative is "not just about enforcement" but about ensuring the area remains safe for everyone, Stepp said in a news release.
