Western North Carolina's vineyards and orchards are bracing for an unseasonably late frost that threatens to damage newly emerged buds and blossoms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg predicts temperatures will dip into the low 30s, and even the upper 20s in some sheltered mountain locations. The cold snap could reduce yields for the upcoming growing season.
The NWS warns that higher elevations and valley locations, where cold air tends to pool, are the most vulnerable.
